A few kilometers from Castellammare del Golfo, on top of a hill overlooking a green valley that ends on the sea, there is the small and quiet seventeenth-century village of Scopello. The main feature of the village is the ancient square with the drinking trough that travellers used to regenerate horses and other transport animals. On the square opens the ancient seventeenth-century Baglio, typical of Sicily, and in its square now houses premises and boutiques for the refreshment of visitors.
Do not miss the Tonnara of Scopello, at the foot of the village and right on the coast, with its beautiful pharaohs and beautiful waters. This Tonnara, now disused, was the first to practice tuna fishing in Sicily, even before the advent of the Romans. It was operational until the 1970s and now houses a private museum. This location loved by tourists from all over the world today holds the tools of the craft of the ancient tuna fishermen dedicated to the bluefin tuna.
