Custonaci is not only a place of nature and tourism, it’s the breathing center of tradition and passion for the past. The Living Museum, that takes place in winter inside the Grotta Mangiapane, it’s well known in the entire Sicily and not only. Through the “Presepe Vivente”, the locals keep remembering and living the old local traditions and the habits of a bygone era.
Men wearing the clothes belonging to pre-industrial and agricolutural times, based on farming and artisan production, they reproduce the art of making ricotta cheese, baking bread and “Busiati”. They fake scenes of the pastoral life and the making of olives and wheat. This gives the spectator the chance of living a journey back in time, but also the chance to taste the products and flavors of the past. Once Christmas time is over, these buildings can be visited even in summer time, from june to september to show people some slides of the past times.
Not to be neglected is the prestigious Church of Maria S.S. of Custonaci famous for its precious Local Marble (the main economic source of the place), placed at only 2 km far from Villa Zina.
