Less popular than the nearby Zingaro reserve, it is located halfway between San Vito Lo Capo and Trapani.
The crystal clear sea of an indefinite blue is the boundary to a promontory of limestone nature of the mountain (m 59) that separates the Gulf of Castelluzzo, to the east, from the Gulf of Bonagia to the west.
It deserves to boast of the title of natural reserve for its great value from all points of view: naturalistic, speleological, historical, folkloristic, and of course landscape. The Reserve, rich vegetation with important aspects of Mediterranean scrub, secondary prairies and dwarf palm, also hosts several species of wild orchids. Among the mammals is reported the presence of the fox, rabbit, weasel and porcupine; assiduous presence is also that of the peregrine falcon.
Starting from San Vito Lo Capo, you reach the east entrance of the Reserve in a little less than twenty minutes by car; you enter by paying a small ticket and continue on foot to the Tonnara di Cofano, here is the beautiful Torre di Tuono, unique in Sicily with its square shape with concave walls, built in 1500 to defend the trap and the ancient fishing village. On the west side, in the direction of the village of Custonaci, there are several caves, the most famous are in Scurati.
