Between Castellammare del Golfo and San Vito Lo Capo hides one of the most magical corners of Sicily: narrow and ancient paths lead us into a dream oasis (1600 hectares of protected area- long 7 km) immersed in the typical Mediterranean environment, among trees and shrubs always green that climb on a rocky ground.
The Zingaro Oriented Nature Reserve, first in Sicily, was established in 1981 by the Sicilian Region.
Although the Zingaro is particularly famous for its beaches, for the clear and rich in fish and underwater caves, it is good to know that the reserve offers much more.
In its territory, in fact, there are many anthropologically relevant realities such as Borgo Cusenza, completely abandoned since the 50s, today at the center of a recovery project and the Grotta dell'Uzzo (evidence of life eight thousand years ago) Inside which are still visible today the remains of a much more recent peasant civilization.
Inside the reserved area there is a small naturalistic museum where panels on the theme have been recently placed "Etnobotanica dello Zingaro with which are brought to light, through photographic images, spontaneous plants used in folk medicine according to the local tradition of rural communities in the territory of Zingaro.
